Tightened up the steering a lot and much better then the factory setup

This part really helped me sleep well last night. I’ve had a dead on center feel in the steering of my Conquest for a while now and it’s been something that’s needed attention for quite some time.

Here’s the thing: The clamp that pinches my steering gear box decided to get sketchy first, I was pushing the car and steering it, as it was temporarily down. Nothing crazy just a few feet to give enough space to move the vehicle trapped by it- well I guess me pulling the wheel while pushing it was too much. ZIP- after that the wheel would just spin and the steering angle never changed.

I reset the sleeve and tightened it down, but I never trusted it again, and that mistrust was even more so given that dead loose on center feel in the steering.

Enter the MKS billet steering coupler. Now the steering is proper with ZERO slop. To install this the steering column has to be pulled. Funnier still once you’ve gotten everything loose to remove the column the coupler is supposed to be persuaded off the steering box using tools.

Well my original steering coupler came right apart….. IN TWO PIECES…. The column came right out, and the clamp side that goes on the steering gear box stayed right where it was. Talk about sketchy. The rubber inside of the original coupler was all but gone- leaving a dead space between the corners of the 4 clover drive shaft that runs the joint to turn the steering gear. No bueno.

With the billet steering coupler, this part should easily outlive the car-
I can not stress this enough, if you own one of these cars, and the original coupler is still on it, even if it’s been modified, get rid of that thing and get the MKS steering coupler. Your safety could totally depend on it.

Further more, experiencing the feel of the steering without all the age associated with it makes the car feel like a different beast. As you drive and parts age you adapt to the feel and over time it’s easy to become numb to the wear and tear. This made my car feel much more fresh mechanically.

I highly recommend this unit if you’re keeping your old car on the road!

This part is well made. It’s awesome. I know Alita99 is going to love it. Thanks MKS

  4. Michael O’malley (verified owner)

Works very well. Completely fixed my issues.
I was able to disassemble my old coupler using a magnet.
    Thanks for your service.
